Rymdplasmafysik
We invite applications for investigation of the role of waves in solar wind heating. This project presents an exciting opportunity to leverage cutting-edge experimental data from NASA's multi-spacecraft Magnetospheric MultiScale (MMS) and ESA/NASA Solar Orbiter missions.
Our team at IRF in Uppsala is a leading research group that performs observations, data analysis, and modeling of space plasma processes (www.space.irfu.se). We have a diverse team of researchers dedicated to spacecraft data analysis on topics such as shocks, plasma waves, magnetic reconnection, and turbulence, as well as decades of experience in developing and operating instruments to measure electric fields, plasma temperature, density, and density fluctuations for spacecraft missions (e.g., Cluster, MMS, Swarm, BepiColombo, Cassini, Rosetta, Solar Orbiter, JUICE).
The successful candidate will be involved in national and international collaborations and expected to present their results at national and international conferences and publish them in leading journals. Expertise in analyzing space plasma measurements and wave-particle interactions will be highly beneficial.
The position is available at the Uppsala office of IRF, located at the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden, for 2 years, with possible extension. The candidates should have completed a Ph.D. We will primarily consider candidates with a degree completed in the last three years. If the applicant has an older degree and wishes to refer to special circumstances, such as parental leave, the application should clearly state this. Candidates should be able to start the work during fall 2024 at the latest.
Applications should include a CV, a short letter stating research interests and relevant experience, copies of undergraduate and Ph.D. degree certificates (or a letter from the supervisor stating when the Ph.D. degree is expected), description and proof of previous postdoctoral positions and/or similar relevant research work (if available), names and contact information for two professional references and reprints of not more than 4 selected publications.

The Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) is a governmental research institute that conducts postgraduate education and research in space physics, atmospheric physics, and space technology. Many of IRF's projects are run as large international projects in collaboration with other research institutes and space agencies. IRF has about one hundred employees and offices in Kiruna (headquarters), Umeå, Uppsala, and Lund. For more information about IRF: www.irf.se
